These are difficult times to ask for contributions.
Contributors are feeling financially insecure and many are saving rather than giving. In order to tap into the limited resources of consumers today, you have to think out of the box!
We’d like you to consider adopting ‘product fundraising' using one day deals! That way your contributors and supporters end up with something they want, and you end up with a portion of the money they spend.
It’s not a new idea. Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for decades have offered cookies, popcorn and other products to raise money. But two companies are offering a glimpse at how you can do product fundraising with a different twist and take advantage of a wildly successful trend.
LivingSocial and Groupon are just two of dozens of new companies founded in the last two years, that send a daily eNewsletter to their subscribers offering a discount of as much as 50% off a product or service. The offer is only good for 24 hours and in some cases only limited quantities are offered. Typically the promotional company splits 50% of the revenue with the business.
Consumers love this!
Consider some of the recent one day deals:
- The Gap sold 441,000 50% off coupons which generated $11,000,000 in sales.
- A new Toronto tea shop had 950 people take advantage of their special offer.
- 6,561 tickets to the King Tut exhibit were sold for $18 each.
- 2,500 introductory airplane lessons were sold by 11 am for a flight school.
- 600 new customers for a spa generates $18,000 in sales in one day.
In just two years, Groupon and LivingSocial have added millions of subscribers and other niche players are entering the market to take advantage of the rising popularity and changing behaviors of consumers.
