Facebook and Your Church

Adopt the Facebook Platform to connect and engage your congregation

You could be using the Facebook Platform to:

  1. Increase membership
  2. Increase retention
  3. Engage and involve your youth where they are at – online
  4. Better communicate with parishioners
  5. Increase stewardship

Since 2004 - Facebook has grown from a few users to 175 million users.  Think about that!  The New York Times, which has been in business since 1851, has only 1 million subscribers!

Facebook is growing by 600,000 members per day!

This is not your kids’ website anymore! The 35 and older age bracket is growing the fastest!   We like to think of Facebook as one of the world's largest phone books  -  which YOU now have access to all the data in it!

You have a once in a lifetime opportunity to bring your congregation together and reach a larger audience by adopting the Facebook Platform for your church.  You are probably wondering what the Facebook Platform is.   Stay with us, we’ll explain it.

Facebook is offering you the opportunity to tap into their database and build a “sub community” where you can bring your congregation together.  It’s done by creating an API (Application Programming Interface) which is a program that reaches into their database and lets you do things that extend your mission.

So what can you do?  Whatever you want!  For example you could create an API that would:

  1. Deliver news and information automatically to your members profile page
  2. Give your pastor a way to personally touch more lives daily with less effort
  3. Engage youth in an environment they are comfortable with
  4. Increase participation in events by driving reminders to members profile pages
  5. Find out whose work/personal status has changed so you can minister to them
  6. Give you an electronic way to strengthen your groups and organizations
  7. Send eBirthday cards and let others know who’s birthday it is
  8. Attract new members and spread your word and mission

And MUCH more.

The nice thing about this opportunity - is once your API is in place everything happens automatically.  You won't have to add another 5 things to your "to do list".  It's really turnkey!

Developing a Facebook API for your organization is your first step to creating an Internet strategy that by- passes email and keeps your congregation in the loop daily!

Why is Facebook offering this opportunity?

Facebook is giving organizations like yours, the ability to reach into their 175 million user base because they know when you build applications to engage your contributors, you will keep them coming back to their site and not to their competitors.  It’s really a revolutionary concept, one that churches like yours have a lot to gain from.   There are even opportunities to monetize your Facebook strategy.

You need to take advantage of this!

We’ve spent the last 12 months getting our hands around this concept and have held numerous workshops and discussions with industry professionals to gain a better understanding of how you could use Facebook Platform to create API’s to help you reach your goals.

Your Presenters:

Diana Haught,  Haught Consulting

At the age of 17, Diana helped to build and establish a successful youth oriented ministry that grew to a 1,000 member congregation that built their church on a cash basis which is now valued at 3.5 million dollars. The church being a predominately youth focused ministry, meant that she and her former husband along w/ a strong support staff would have to be VERY creative in finding ways to communicate their goals as well as reach them!

Although no longer an active part of the ministry, remains one of its biggest fans!!!  Diana is available to work with congregations as well as individuals to help them understand the stresses the church can put on the families of pastors as well as those in leadership.  She has a fun and insightful way of getting right to the core issues, concerns and pains... you will feel like you are sitting at a local coffee shop w/ a friend.

Diana is an early pioneer of online communities and social media tools and will bring her experience and insights to our conversation to share how tools like this can prevent hardship as well as strengthen the relationships of staff as well as the congregation!   Connect with Diana on Facebook!
