Facebook API Engages Alumni & Increases Contributions!

Explore with us the new opportunities to engage alumni with the Facebook Platform

All attendees will learn how to create an API that can drive news and event
information to the Facebook profile page of alumni!

First of all you are probably wondering what API stands for.  It's Application Programming Interface!

Facebook is offering you the opportunity to create an API that will enable you to share news and information with your alumni registered on Facebook.  We like to think of Facebook as the world's biggest phone book with (only) 150 million people in it!   (The average member spends 15 minutes on Facebook each time they login.)

When you stop to think about it -  you could be reaching a lot of alumni!  Since 2004, nearly 83 percent of your students have been using Facebook.   Facebook's stats are showing your graduates are continuing to use Facebook DAILY, even after they graduate!

At this Webinar, we'll demonstrate how you can create your own Facebook API.  It's remarkably easy to create a news feed API and requires no programming knowledge!  You will also learn how more advanced API's will enable you to collect data from your alumni (which you can do whatever you want  with).  Both annual giving and alumni affairs will find interesting ways to adapt this opportunity.

Why is Facebook offering this opportunity?

Facebook is giving organizations like your alumni association the ability to reach into their user base because they know when you build applications to engage your alumni, you will keep them coming back to their site and not to their competitors.  It’s really a revolutionary concept, one that alumni associations like yours have a lot to gain from.

You need to take advantage of this!

We’ve spent the last 12 months getting our hands around this concept and have held numerous workshops and discussions with professionals in annual giving, capital campaigns and alumni relations to gain a better understanding of how you could use Facebook Applications.

Join this Webinar to find out how your organization can use Facebook API's to increase:

  • Participation at events
  • Communication at less cost
  • Contributions by encouraging alumni to challenge their friends
  • Registrations in YOUR alumni online community

Plus, you'll learn how easy it is to use free software to create a basic news feed API!

Invest an hour and learn how to create a basic API that will enable you and your team to communicate, engage and network with alumni on Facebook.

Comments from previous attendees:

Facebook is a great tool for non-profit organizations and universities that is not being used to its full potential. My advice would be to GET ON before someone from your organization (a past participant or alumnus) creates the group for you. Even if it is just basic at first, at least you will have control over your organization’s official page.

To us, it is obvious that to reach the next generation, we can either use old methods and continue to believe they will work, or reach people where they already are.  Increasingly, we see social networking sites like Facebook as the virtual home for nearly every member of an entire generation.  The APIs that are presently available or being developed should allow organizations to leverage the important connections that social networking sites already have made to accomplish organizational missions effectively and efficiently.

Developing an API strategy is important to our organization on many levels, marketing, donations, etc., but most importantly keeping connected with our graduates.  We are a new school and had our first graduation just this past June.  Our donors are connected to these students and want to continue to be engaged with them as they pursue their dreams in college.  By using means of communication that are “friendly” and accessible to our students and alumni, we are better able to support them.  Facebook, You Tube, Twitter are vehicles we are using or exploring as part of our strategy.
